Q1. What are the symptoms of FHV?
A1. Coughing, sneezing, foaming at the mouth, tearing, increased eye and nose discharge, depression, loss of appetite…
Q2. What is the incubation period of the FHV virus?
A2. The incubation period following infection with FCV or FHV is usually just a few days (2-10 days). After this, typical clinical signs develop which include Sneezing. Nasal discharge.
Q3. How do you test a cat for FHV?
A3. Feline Herpesvirus. For PCR testing, samples of blood are taken or swabs of nasal, oropharyngeal or conjunctivae mucosae are taken by cotton swabs (are provided by laboratory). Laboratory provides two swabs for one animal - each swab can be used for sampling of different mucosae.
Q4. How long can FHV live on surfaces?
A4. The virus prefers damp environments but even so, can only remain active for 18 hours on a surface without a host and an even shorter period of time as an aerosol. Symptoms occur after an incubation period of 24-48 hours.

A5. Feline herpes virus is a common viral infection that can affect cats of all ages and breeds worldwide. FHV-1 is an upper respiratory infection of the nose and throat in cats with no cure. Typically, upper respiratory infections last between 7-21 days.
